European Corn Borer
(Ostrinia nubilalis)
- Damage to Potatoes

The corn borer attacks the stem of the plant by boring into it. Tunneling within the host plant can contribute to reduced plant nutrient movement. Also, tunneling promotes invasion of disease organisms which can cause stem breakage or rot and discolored stem ends of tubers. The effect is reduced yields and poor quality of potatoes.
