TO ALL NORTH AMERICAN PARTICIPANTS,

We are sending you the program for the 12th International Enology Symposium which will be held for the first time in North America. The Symposium is held every 3 years and is organized by the International Association for Enology, Winery Management and Wine Marketing e.V.

The symposium registration fee includes most meals and transportation during tour A or tour B. You must organize your own transportation to Montréal. If you participate in the post-symposium tour, you will need transportation back from New York City (tour ends 12 June 1999 in New York City).

The technical program includes presentations from experts from many countries on current topics in enology and a visit to the Lallemand yeast production facilities.

The conference tour introduces you to the very dynamic wine regions of Eastern North America. The area of NE Canada and USA encompasses in diverse, beautiful natural environments several distinct wine regions with a wide range of excellent wines.

Sunday, 30 May 1999

10:00: Discover two Quebec vineyards located in two different regions: L'Ortailleur (Estrie) and Dietrich Joss (Monterégie). Tasting and lunch. Followed by a presentation on "viticulture under difficult winter conditions". Guided tour of the city of Montréal . Montréal is the oldest port in North America. The city will delight you with its charm, the beauty of the St-Laurent river, and its multicultural atmosphere. Welcome dinner hosted by Lallemand Inc. with Northamerican wines will be served at the Chalet du Mont Royal, situated on Lac des Castors (Beaver Lake).

Continue by bus to the Ontario winegrowing region. Visit of Inniskillin Winery. Evening: presentation of various wines from the Ontario region.

Overnight at Hotel Pillar and Post, Niagara on the Lake.

Saturday, 5 June 1999

Visit of Hillebrand Winery, then visit of Niagara Falls, evening drive to the Finger Lakes wine region of New York State, dinner on a boat on Lake Erie Canal in Rochester. Overnight at Ramada Inn on the Lake, Geneva, NY.

Sunday, 6 June 1999

Visit of Wagner Vineyards on Seneca Lake, wine estate with its own microbrewery. Introduction to the region its history and its viticulture. Brunch. Visit of Watkins Glen water falls. Dinner at the Red Newt winery with tasting of regional wines and blue grass music. Uncork NY!

Visit at HJ Wiemer estate (outstanding Rieslings), Glenora Wine Company (premium sparkling wine producer) wine tasting and lunch.

Boattrip with brunch on Canandaigua Lake. Afternoon, drive to Long Island. Stop in Hudson River region, Benmarl or Millbrook Vyds. Overnight at Ramada Inn, Riverhead, NY.

Wednesday, 9 June 1999

Visit of Long Island wine region. Stop at Lenz Winery and Paumonok Vineyards. Presentation of Long Island regional wines and lunch.

Thursday, 10 June 1999

Visit to the South Fork of Long Island, Domaine Wolffer. Afternoon, drive to New York City, check in at hotel, evening possibility of seeing a Broadway show.
