Job Assignments for FS 430 TA's

Here is a list of TA jobs and policies. Please adhere to them:

General - for everyone

  1. Show up 30 minutes before class. Be present at each meeting.
  2. Kat Kittel and Chris Gerling are the head TAs. Please give them your cooperation as you would any of the professors.
  3. Please help out on other jobs if needed. We will make assignments, but a good quality course means everyone is responsible for every aspect of the course.
  4. You may be asked to help serve and pour. Do this quietly and professionally. A good waiter is like a good referee in a boxing match -- he is nearly invisible.

PREP & Cleanup Crew

  1. Show up 1 hour before class.
  2. Make sure water, spitbuckets, ice for cooling wine, crackers (if needed), paper towels, etc. are ready and in the room (or the prep room behind 204) before class begins.
  3. Check for any additional sample prep 1 - 2 days before class and 1 hour before class.
  4. Empty all spitbuckets and wash down the sink in the janitor's closet with hot water and soap. Make sure all spills are cleaned up. Wipe down the surface of all trays and tables. Return leftover wine to storage. Mop floors if needed.
  5. Wash any miscellaneous glassware in the Sensory Test Kitchen dishwasher.

Audiovisual and Room Setup

  1. Make sure the computer is on, and connected to the internet.
  2. Make sure the PicTel equipment is on (including sound), the overhead projector, the auxiliary camera, and the secondary projector is in place (for the "talking head") and that everything is working.
  3. Arrange room by putting the trays on alternate rows (leaving space between rows for the TAs to walk between and pour). Put up additional tables if needed. Get additional chairs if needed.
  4. Put all equipment away after class.

Xerox and Miscellaneous Preparation

  1. Check the www and/or E-mail for changes in class schedule and assignments.
  2. Take class attendance for each lecture.
  3. Check IDs for proof of age in the first two classes.

Other

  1. You may swap duties if out of town, as long as every job is always covered. I suggest you keep a written record on the posted duty roster if anyone is covering for anyone else.
  2. There is no excuse for foulups such as projectors that don't work or wines at the wrong temperature. Show attention to detail and leave no stone unturned. Backup plans are always desireable.
