Isolation and characterization of methyl epijasmonate from lemon (Citrus limon Burm.).
J. Agric. Food Chem 32(5): 1001-3.
Two epimers of Me 2-[2-Z-pentenyl]-3-oxocyclopentane-1-acetate, i.e., Me jasmonate (I) and Me epijasmonate (II), were isolated from lemon peel (C. limon). 1H NMR, mass spectra, hydrogenation, ozonolysis, and acid catalyzed isomerization were used to establish their identity. Gas chromatog. indicated the presence of 75 .mu.g of Me jasmonate isomers in the peel of 1 lemon with >95% of it in the thermodynamically less stable Me epijasmonate form.
