Evidence of Additional Sex Pheromone Components in the Asian Corn Borer, Ostrinia furnacalis (Guenee).
Philipp. Ent. 6(1): 39-45.
Crude extracts of female Asian corn borer moths, Ostrinia furnacalis (Guenee) were tested in the field. Estracts were in heptane, acetone and acetone after heptane washes of female abdomen tips, and were dispensed in rubber septa after the solvent was evaporated. Results from water pan traps were compared between baits by number of observations with more moths captured. Baits in decreasing order of effectiveness were extracts with acetone after heptane, acetone, heptane and unbaited traps. This indicates the presence of more active pheromone components that are extractrable with acetone but poorly so with heptane.
