Odor thresholds of the stereoisomers of methyl jasmonate.

Four stereoisomers, 1R,2R-(-)- [1211-29-6] and 1S,2S-(+)-Me jasmonate [78609-06-0], 1R,2S-(+)- [95722-42-2] and 1S,2R-(-)-Me epijasmonate [62653-86-5] were isolated from com. Me jasmonate (I) [39924-52-2]. Enantiomeric resoln. was based on the sepn. of bornyl jasmonate diastereoisomers by HPLC. Odor thresholds showed the 1R,2S-Me epijasmonate to have the strongest odor, with 1R,2R-(-)-Me jasmonate having a weak odor and 1S,2S-(+)-Me jasmonate and 1S,2R-(-)-Me epijasmonate being odorless. Gas chromatog. showed the com. mixt. to be 93% (.+-.)-Me jasmonate and 7% (.+-.)-Me epijasmonate.
