  • Gene Gun - Find out about the groundbreaking 'gene gun' developed here at the Station in the late 1980s. The gene gun has made possible many significant advancements in genetics related to agriculture, medicine, and other areas of biology.
  • Fungi Under the Microscope-Explore the wide world of fungi-from diseased plants to scary things in the back of the refrigerator-through microscopes in this hands-on activity.
  • The ABCs of IPM - Learn how to manage the insect pests you may encounter in your daily life through Integrated Pest Management solutions.
  • Hands-on Demonstration of Bt Plants - See first-hand how genetically engineered plants with the Bt bacterium are protected against insect attacks.
  • History Display - Find out all about the history of the Experiment Station, and view historical artifacts dating back to the 1800s.

Location #2- Hedrick Hall Lawn

  • Exhibit of Seed Coating Equipment with Video- See how seeds are coated and treated, as well as the equipment used to do so.
  • Germination Display - Learn about seed aberrations through displays of seeds, equipment, fruit and vegetable varieties, and more.
  • Plum Tasting – Taste several different varieties of plums, and learn about how new varieties are created.
  • Student Association of the Geneva Experiment Station (SAGEs) Display – talk with graduate students doing research at the Experiment Station.

Location #3- Barton Lab Parking Lot

  • Apple Breeding-Help Cornell scientists name a new apple while learning how new apple varieties are created.
  • Live Insect Zoo-Learn about the diversity and importance of insects while seeing dozens of interesting live specimens.

  • Apple Ripeness Exhibit-Conduct a test to determine the degree of ripeness in apple samples using a potassium iodide solution.
  • Plant Doctors
  • Soil Health Display-See how scientists measure soil heath both in the field and in the lab, and find out what factors contribute to soil degradation.

  • Children's Activities-Small children will be entertained for hours with games, coloring books, and learning activities.

  • Exotic Live Butterfly Exhibit- See over 300 live exotic butterflies from around the world in a tropical greenhouse setting.

  • Crop Spraying Demonstration-Watch how improved technology is utilized to help to improve crop-spraying efficiency.

  • Soil Insects and Turfgrass Pests-Discover what kinds of insects inhabit the earth beneath us through this hands-on soil sampling activity.

Location #8- Cornell Agricultural & Food Technology Park

  • Tour of the AgTech Park-Learn more about the AgTech Park, see the facility, and have an opportunity to speak with some of the tenants about what goes on inside.

  • Virus Detection-Test small plant samples to better understand how plant pathologists detect viruses and learn how antibodies work.
  • Summer Science Camp Display-Learn more about an exciting hands-on summer science camp for North Street Elementary school children.
  • Nanotechnology Display-Find out how Cornell plant pathology researchers are making big discoveries using very tiny technology.
  • Biopesticides Activity-Learn how insect viruses can be used not only to control pests but also help produce useful proteins.
  • Control of Plant Diseases without Sprays of Chemicals-Discover how scientists are helping plants become more resistant to diseases so that the use of harmful chemicals can be reduced.
  • Alternative Methods for Controlling Vegetable Pests-Learn how new technologies and biological agents are helping to reduce the use of pesticides.

  • Walking Tour of Campus Landscape Plantings – Enjoy an informative tour with a historical perspective of the woody perennials on Station grounds.
  • Parrott Hall History Display – Learn more about historic Parrott Hall and some of the many transformations it has undergone during it’s 150-year existence.
  • Commemorative 125th Anniversary Stamp Display – A must for stamp collectors, have a stamped envelope cancelled with an authentic US Postal Service marking commemorating the 125 years of the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station.
