Agriculture in the Hudson Valley
The soils, climate, and topography of the lower Hudson Valley
are well-suited for fruit production.
The lower Hudson Valley and Orange County to the south also encompasses
several river-bottom and black-dirt regions that support a concentration
of sweet corn, vegetable, and onion farms.
Hudson Valley grape production, once a thriving industry based on table grape exports, is being revived and refocused toward production of wine grapes that can be used by local wineries that cater to the substantial Hudson Valley tourist trade and increasing demand for locally produced wines.
