| The Collection
Founded
in 1882, the Library houses a collection approaching 50,000 volumes.
The strength of the collection is in the agricultural
and biological sciences, with an emphasis on supporting the research
and extension activities of the Experiment Station’s Plant
Pathology, Entomology, Horticultural Science and Food Science & Technology
departments. The bulk of the collection resides in Jordan Hall,
with satellite collections in the Entomology Department and the
Plant Pathology Department in Barton Laboratory.
The Library has
subscriptions to over 350 current serial publications, and is a
repository for approximately 100 current serial titles from federal
agencies
and sister institutions. Of particular significance is the Library’s extensive
viticulture and enology collection, which is the finest collection east of the
Rockies. This collection is comprised of over 1700 volumes and over 50 current
subscriptions to wine and grape periodicals from around the world. Together with
Mann, Hotel and Olin Libraries on the Ithaca campus, Cornell’s holdings
in enology and viticulture are substantial.
In addition, the Library offers a
full array of electronic resources to its users, with direct access to hundreds
of databases and thousands of full text journals
available through the Cornell Library system to all Cornell faculty, staff
, students and visitors.
