Use & Policies

All library desktop computers are available to our user community to access the electronic research resources, for creating documents, web mail, and any other type of electronically based-research. Laptop computers are also available for checkout and use in Jordan Hall to anyone that has a valid New York State Resident's Card or a valid Cornell ID. It is very important that anyone who uses these computers does not change any configurations or add software that we have not installed. If you have questions about this policy please contact us at lib@nysaes.cornell.edu. If you use any of these computers and find problems with them please contact us at the above e-mail.

It is also very important that all copyright policies are followed. For complete information on copyright policies at Cornell please visit the Cornell copyright information page and again, if you have any questions please contact the library staff at lib@nysaes.cornell.edu.

We ask that you help to take care of this equipment. Part of that care is to not eat or drink around the computers.


Laptop policy
 
Laptops are available to loan to anyone with a valid New York State Resident's Card or a valid Cornell ID. These laptops can be checked out and used in Jordan Hall. a variety of CD  RW/DVD  drives, floppy drives, head phones, power cords and mice are availagle with these laptops. If you need a specific type of drive or specific software, please ask for that particular item when you request the computer at the circulation desk.

  • Laptops are available at the Frank A. Lee Library Circulation Desk and may be borrowed by anyone with a valid New York State Resident's Card or a valid Cornell ID.
  • Laptop loan period is four hours.
  • Renewal - Laptops  must be presented at the Circulation Desk for renewal.  Laptops can only be renewed if other patrons are not waiting for them.
  • Laptop check out begins at 8 am Monday through Friday and they must  be returned by 4:45 pm Monday through Thursday and 3:45 pm on Friday. They are not available at anytime the Library is closed.
  • No overnight loans are permitted.
  • There is a limit of one laptop per patron with valid ID.
  • Laptops may be used in Jordan Hall only.
  • Laptops are equipped with wireless technology and are configured to connect to the NYSAES network.
  • PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE LAPTOPS UNATTENDED.
  • The laptop borrower, is responsible for any equipment lost or damaged.
  • Upon return, computers will be checked to ensure all equipment is intact.
  • Borrower must return all peripherals included with laptop.

The laptop borrower, is responsible for returning all materials to the Circulation Desk. Replacement costs for computers are up to $2500, replacement costs for peripherals range from $50 to $300.
 
Late Fees will be enforced:

  • $.04 per minute
  • $35.00 maximum late fee per item, per day
  • Fines will be collected as check, cash or credit card.
