My job is to coordinate the fruit disease control trials for our program and my department. I work with several professors in setting up and carrying out their chemical and/or biological disease control experiments in research orchards and small fruit plantings. With the help of my assistant, I lay out research plots, make applications, keep records, and help in collecting data. I am also responsible for all of the maintenance and repairs for our spray trucks and other related equipment, as well as routine plot and orchard maintenance, including fertilization, pruning, planting, training, weed and insect control. Some of my other duties include equipment maintenance, modification or improvement to meet research needs in the lab and greenhouse. I also help supervise and train temporary field assistants, visiting scientists, graduate students and post docs working in our program.

The thing I like best about my position is the constant variety of tasks to be completed and the challenge of coordinating several concurrent disease control programs.

Managed 300 acre commercial fruit farm: (1973-1994)
Trained a staff of two men in proper use of equipment and supervised themin their duties.
Determined best time to fertilize, cultivate, harvest and market fruit.
Supervised all aspects of trimming, spraying, mowing, planting, mousebaiting and fertilizing.
Hired and supervised all extra personnel needed during harvest of fruit.
Maintained and repaired migrants camps (carpentry, plumbing, masonry)
