    Responsibilities

Duties include planning and preparation of various media for culturing tissue culture plants in different phases of propagation, leaf expansion, transformation, regeneration, and rooting. In addition, culturing of transgenic strains of Agrobacterium tumefaciens for DNA transformation of apple tissue, preparation of inocula, and culture medium are an integral part of the ongoing research support needs of the program. As a pesticide applicator apprentice, I administer limited treatments for pest control, scout greenhouses for pests, and order appropriate chemical sprays when needed. Other facets of my position that I enjoy include: proof-reading and editing of manuscripts, reports, and grant proposals, as well as performing literature searches in hard copy and on-line.
