    Responsibilities

Primary duties involve helping to maintain an extensive tissue culture program which supports the focus of the lab on genetic transfer in apple.  These include: preparing media for sterile culture of plants, transfer of plant tissue cultures, both transgenic and non-transgenic, and subsequent eventual plantings to soil. Periodic transformation of apple from tissue cultures is another facet, which requires inoculum preparation, harvesting of leaves, co-cultivation with Agrobacterium tumefaciens, and placement on prepared regeneration media. In addition, after planting transformed plants, I maintain them in growth chambers until they are ready for the greenhouse or further experimentation.
