Dillard Lab Vegetable Pathology Website About High Tunnels Unlike greenhouses, high tunnels have no supplemental heat or automated ventilation. A single (vs. double) layer of plastic is used. Instead of fans, roll-up sides ventilate the structure. High tunnels can be moved, which offers an advantage for rotating into fresh soil for tomato culture, to avoid pest and disease build-up, as well as nutrient depletion.
