2006 Survey Results
After six consecutive years of survey, PPV was found for the first time in New York in 2006. A total of 86,431 samples from commercial orchards were collected and tested that year. PPV was confirmed at two sites in Niagara County. The first site was in a plum orchard close to the Niagara River, near Porter, NY, at a 5-mile distance from the initial Canadian infestation sites. Two trees tested positive for the virus at the end of June; they were right next to each other. The second site was located in a peach orchard near Olcott, NY, approximately 11 miles to the east of the first site. One tree tested positive for PPV in July.
