2. Overall Selection Map

The map presented here is a site suitability map for New York state. The map is based upon climate, soil and land use information at a1 km2 resolution. The most suitable parts of the state in climatic terms were Long Island, the Hudson Valley, Niagara and Ontario regions and parts of the Central (Finger) Lakes districts. The information presented here does not take into consideration local scale climatic influences caused by topography. The algorithms also may not fully account for localized influences such as lake shore effects. It should be noted that this map is designed to give an overall summary of climate and soil suitability for grape cultivation and should not be interpreted in absolute terms.
