The map presented here is a site suitability map for Seneca County. It is based on climatic, soil, slope and land use suitability factors (note: climate information was available at the 1km2 scale only). Suitable land use is defined as areas with agriculture or forest. Slopes must be in between 3 and 12%. Slopes less than 3% will probably not have suitable air drainage whilst those greater than 12% will be more difficult to operate machinery. The most suitable areas of the county are in the south and favorability increases with proximity to the lakes.
Validation of this map
Eight vineyards in this county were located on the map. All 8 vineyards were located on land classed as favorable for viticulture. Four vineyards were assigned the lowest favoravbility, and four were assigned higher favorabilities.
