What is the basis for simulation of SWD?

As was noted in the discussion the theoretical standard, SWD can also be estimated by simulation model.

Physically based suimulation models function as a water budget. The surface energy balance governs additions or subtractions to the budget.

What simulation models have been developed?

Physically based Simulation models have been constructed at three scales; drop, leaf and canopy scales.

Read about the work on leaf wetness duration in Germany (Hoppmann and Wittisch)

There are also empirical SWD simulation models and those based on neural networks.  For neural networks see the references by Chtioui et al. and Francl

What SWD simulation models are available on the web?

The SWEB model can be downloaded

Description of SWEB

Other models such as the Pedro and Gillespie dew model are currently in use.

Can simulation models be used in combination with off-site (remote) data?

Yes, but the off-site data may not have the required accuracy for all models.
