   Program Overview

As leader of Cornell’s grape pathology program, my overall mission is to develop and provide new information that will enable grape growers and their advisers to implement improved disease management programs. Inherent in this goal is to expand the science upon which such decisions are based. Thus, research topics typically address theoretical as well as practical questions. Specific projects frequently are designed to discern aspects of disease and pathogen biology that directly impact on management efforts, e.g., periods of host susceptibility, factors affecting inoculum production, environmental effects on disease development, etc. Other projects have focused on factors concerning disease management tools, e.g., fungicide physical modes of action and the population biology of fungicide resistance. Many projects are conducted in cooperation with colleagues in additional plant pathology, viticulture, and entomology programs.
