Welcome to the Department of Plant Pathology and Plant-Microbe Biology at Cornell, Geneva. The faculty, students and staff strive to create an environment that is conducive for excellence in research, Extension and graduate education.

The central themes of our work are to enhance the understanding of plant diseases, to use this knowledge for the development of effective controls and to disseminate our results through Extension programs. To meet these goals our faculty lead a diversity of research and Extension programs that span the use of traditional approaches, often providing immediate answers to disease problems, to more fundamental research programs that employ the newest technologies for studying pathogen interactions with plants. Although our main thrust is directed towards meeting the needs of NY agriculture, our efforts have far-reaching national and international impact.

     Graduate and Postdoctoral Study at Cornell Geneva

Graduate study assistantships are currently available for the pursuit graduate studies in Plant Pathology at Geneva. Cornell’s Department of Plant Pathology at Geneva is one of two such departments of the university.  The other Department of Plant Pathology is located on the main campus of Cornell University in Ithaca, 50 miles south of Geneva.  The two departments comprise a single integrated Field of Plant Pathology, and students may pursue graduate degrees under the direction of professors from either department.  Most, but not all coursework (see: Field Plant Pathology Course) is completed on the Ithaca campus.  Free shuttle vans provide transportation between the Geneva and Ithaca departments.

Cornell’s Department of Plant Pathology at Geneva also hosts postdoctoral scientists and visiting scholars from around the world.  Research visits, internships, and sabbatical leaves are generally arranged through direct contacts with the faculty of the department.
