Finger Lakes Institute

Science Camp students had a fun field trip to the Finger Lakes Institute at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Geneva NY.

Marc Edwards hosted students and showed them some of the microscopic organisms that live in Seneca Lake.

A trip to Seneca Lake allowed students the chance
to collect water samples.

The Finger Lakes Institute is dedicated to the promotion of environmental research and education about the Finger Lakes and surrounding environments.

By collecting and observing the microscopic life in Seneca Lake, students gained an understanding of, and appreciation for the intircate web of life that connects all organisms in the ecosystem.

Students had the chance to view organisms
collected from Seneca Lake

They learned that a healthy lake can lead to a healthy garden, just as a healthy garden can help to maintain a healthy lake.

The studenst also collected water samples to test for pH levels in the lake.
