Learning the parts of a plant was made much more enjoyable when Steve Reiners brought in samples of roots, stems, leaves and flowers to eat.

determine the number of leaflets per leaf on the
raspberry cane

Freshly picked raspberries were a treat from Courtney Weber, Horticultural Sciences. In addition to taste testing the berries, raspberry plants were used as an example of how traits such as berry color and leaf morphology are passed along from parent to progeny.

Courtney Weber discusses plant cell DNA.

The kids also learned that all cells contain deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA).
