Worobo appointed Director of Undergraduate Education at the NYS Agricultural
Experiment Station in Geneva
By
Joe Ogrodnick GENEVA, NY: Randy Worobo, associate professor
of food microbiology at Cornell University in the department of Food Science
and Technology at theNYS Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva, NY, was
appointed Director of Undergraduate Education for the Geneva campus. The appointment
was made by Susan Henry, the Ronald P. Lynch Dean of Agriculture and Life Sciences
at Cornell University.
Worobo's responsibilities will include oversight of undergraduate
education at Geneva. Among other things, this entails facilitating
student research awards programs and assisting in the placement
of Cornell students with Geneva faculty.
"There are numerous possibilities for connecting students
to various programs for the purposes of research and education," said
Thomas Burr, director of the Station.
"My immediate and future goals include increasing undergraduate
involvement with Geneva students who participate in research programs
under the guidance of Geneva faculty members," said Worobo
. "Hopefully, this will lead to more involvement on the part
of Geneva faculty in undergraduate mentoring and education. This
is a great opportunity for both faculty and the students."
Two years ago Worobo received the College of Agriculture and Life
Sciences' Excellence in Undergraduate Mentoring of Independent
Research Award and the Cornell Tradition Employer Recognition Award.
The two awards were given in recognition for his mentoring of Cornell
student, Mathew Moake, who worked with Worobo for more than three
years, co-authoring six papers and one book during that time.
"This mentoring experience was very fulfilling for me," said
Worobo. "Hopefully, more Geneva faculty will have this extraordinary
opportunity to interact with and mentor Cornell undergraduate students."
